VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that centre back Carlyle Mitchell (Trinidad & Tobago), midfielder Russell Teibert (Canada) and striker Darren Mattocks (Jamaica) have all been called up by their respective countries for upcoming international friendly matches.
Canada will assemble in Bat Waltersdof, Austria, on November 10 in preparation for two matches. The Red and White will first travel to face the Czech Republic in Olomouc on November 15, kickoff at 8 a.m. PT, before squaring off against Slovenia in Celje on November 19 at 9 a.m. PT. Also included on Canada's roster are fellow Whitecaps FC Residency graduates Adam Straith and Kyle Porter.
Teibert last played for Canada in an international friendly against Australia on October 15 at Craven Cottage in London, England. Teibert subbing on for Dwayne De Rosario at halftime. In total, the 20-year-old winger has earned six caps with the Canadian senior men’s national team after making his debut in August 2012.
In MLS action this season, Teibert started 19 of his 24 appearances, scoring two goals and tying a club MLS record with nine assists. A graduate of Whitecaps FC’s Residency program, Teibert was also named 10th in the league's annual 24 under 24 series.
Mattocks and Mitchell will face one another in a pair of international friendlies. First, Jamaica will play host to their Caribbean rivals on November 15 in Montego Bay before Trinidad host the return match on November 19 at Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.
Mitchell, 26, has made 22 appearances for the Trinidad and Tobago senior men’s national team after making his debut in a friendly against Jamaica back in August 2010. Most recently, the 6-foot-2 defender started and played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw against New Zealand on October 15 at Hasely Crawford Stadium. The native of Arima, Trinidad and Tobago, earned the Jock MacDonald Unsung Hero award with Whitecaps FC this past season after starting 13 of his 15 MLS appearances while also registering two assists.
Mattocks, 23, has earned nine caps for the Jamaican senior national team after making his debut August 15, 2012 in an international friendly against El Salvador. Most recently, the Portmore, Jamaica native played the full 90 minutes in a World Cup qualifying match against the United States on October 11, followed by 62 minutes in the Reggae Boyz final match of qualifying against Honduras on October 15. This past season, Mattocks made 20 appearances for Whitecaps FC in MLS, scoring three goals and registering one assist.
