Rivero scores his first two goals in a Whitecaps FC uniform |
After spending the first portion of preseason in Tucson, and before heading off to the Simple Invitational tournament in Portland, Whitecaps FC return to British Columbia to play in front of the home fans.
For local fans on the island, it’s a great opportunity to see the team close to home in this annual match against the Vikes. And for fans on the mainland, it’s a great little day trip to check out the team in action before the season kicks off on March 7 at BC Place.
Speaking of making the short trip to Victoria, fans can receive a 20% discount on Harbour Air Seaplanes flights when they wear a Whitecaps FC jersey or show their ticket to the match. This offer is only available the day before, day of, and day after the match. The discount will be applied at check-in.

Waston scores the winning goal to get the 'Caps to the playoffs |
With only three weeks until the MLS season opener on March 7 at BC Place, expect a number of regular starters to take the field for Whitecaps FC.
Fans can expect to see captain Pedro Morales, who is rejoining the team after a short departure for the birth of his second child, a new baby girl. Morales is captain of the ‘Caps and led the team with 10 goals and 12 assists. For his efforts, the Chilean playmaker was named Whitecaps FC Player of the Year and MLS Newcomer of the Year.
Also leading the team will be fan favourite Kendall Waston. The 6-foot-5 Costa Rican was a dominant force for the ‘Caps and scored the memorable winning goal in the regular season finale to get the team to the playoffs.

Andre Lewis with the backflip attempt seen around the world |
We’ve seen plenty of rain over the last couple of weeks, but Sunday is shaping up to be a beautiful day for footy.
Conditions should be nearly perfect for another backflip attempt (Andre Lewis' famous celebration at last year's event received an ESPN FC Toe Poke Award).
NOTE: Lewis later redeemed himself with a successful backlip in the 'Caps intra-squad match: http://youtu.be/AFUCCny_hjA?t=1m52s
So round up your family, friends, and fellow supporters for a great afternoon in Victoria.
