The Province - The best of Toure yet to emerge in 2010 - @ProvinceWeber
It has been almost a year since Whitecaps' fans saw the best of Ansu Toure. Toronto FC brought it out of him.
His goal 31 minutes in was simple enough; a tap-in. But his insurance marker in the 81st was a thing of beauty; a left-footed missile to the far post that, at the time, seemed to guarantee the Whitecaps passage into the CONCACAF Champions League.
Toronto's subsequent 6-1 thrashing of Montreal changed that script, but here we are again -- Vancouver and Toronto at Swangard Stadium in a Canadian championship tournament tilt.
This time, the Whitecaps control their own fate. Montreal, still with a game to play against Vancouver, is out of the running. A tie tonight keeps the Whitecaps alive, but forget the math: they need a win. Head coach Teitur Thordarson has admitted as much.

The Province - Whitecaps coach admits short-term pain for long-term gain - @ProvinceWeber
Charles Gbeke could have helped the goal-starved Vancouver Whitecaps this season.
In an honest assessment of his club's scoring woes, Teitur Thordarson admitted that much on Monday. But the head coach doesn't regret forging ahead without his enigmatic leading scorer from 2009.
"I definitely think he could have helped us, I have no doubt in my mind," said Thordarson, "but I recognize that fact in a short-term view. I don't regret that decision.
"We basically took this choice because we counted on the younger players to be with Marlon [James] up front, and Marlon has been injured.

Weber's blog: Back of the NetThe Vancouver Sun - 'Caps consider risks to tip Toronto - @bconstantineau
Don’t believe everything you read in Wikipedia.
It's easily the biggest game of the year so far and almost a must-win scenario.
So how do the Vancouver Whitecaps -coming off two consecutive scoreless draws -find enough offensive punch to get the job done tonight against Toronto FC?
They take risks.
"In the end, I think it will have to be up to us to take some risks," Whitecaps coach Teitur Thordarson said Tuesday. "We will approach the game in our usual manner but if that doesn't pay off, then we will have to take risks later in the game."

Toronto Sun - TFC win might not be good thing - Steven Sandor
The good news for Toronto FC: If it beats the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday, the team clinches the Nutrilite Canadian Championship with a game to spare.
The bad news: If TFC wins, the competition is essentially over, even though there are two games left to play in the tourney's schedule after Wednesday's night game out in B.C. Both of those matches - a date next week between Montreal and Vancouver and then the Whitecaps and TFC at BMO Field in two weeks time - would become nothing more than glorified, meaningless friendlies.

Sportsnet - Rain, rain, go away - Gerry Dobson
Miserable day on the West Coast in advance of Wednesday night's critical encounter between Toronto and Vancouver.
If TFC wins, the Nutrilite Canadian Championship is theirs for the second year running. If not, the Whitecaps will live to fight another day.
The home team trained at their usual facility up at Simon Fraser University in pouring rain. The 'Caps are in a much better frame of mind these days after an up-tempo, encouraging draw against Montreal in the league on the weekend.

CBC - De Guzman questionable for TFC against Whitecaps - John Molinaro
Will Julian de Guzman be on the field when Toronto FC visits the Vancouver Whitecaps Wednesday?
Only TFC coach Preki knows for sure, and he's not tipping his hand.
De Guzman pulled out of the warmup Saturday ahead of Toronto's 0-0 draw against the Los Angeles Galaxy with a hamstring injury.
The Canadian midfielder trained Tuesday afternoon but Preki wouldn't say for sure if de Guzman would be able to play for Toronto in Wednesday's crucial Canadian club championship match.
