Who will Vancouver Whitecaps FC select at 16th overall in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft?
We won’t know for sure until Thursday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t speculate. So here’s what some of the pundits are saying in their latest mock drafts.
MLSSOCCER.COM: HADJI BARRY (F/W, UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA)
“Barry had a shocker on Day 2 of the Combine but bounced back strong on Day 3. He can be used on either wing or up top in a pinch, and has the type of final third skills that teams covet. Honestly though, the Whitecaps roster is tough to crack. They're two deep at every position.” – Matt Doyle, MLS analyst
SOCCER BY IVES: ERIC VERSO (M, STANFORD)
“The Whitecaps could use some production on the flanks and Verso is coming off an outstanding year at Stanford, and impressive showing at the combine. His passing touch, relentless effort and ability to take people on make him a good option here.” – Ives Galarcep, SBIsoccer.com/Goal.com
TOP DRAWER SOCCER: DENNIS CASTILLO (RB, VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH)
“With the Whitecaps trading Steven Beitashour to Canadian rivals Toronto FC, and having a promising but raw talent in Costa Rican right back Jordan Smith as an option, head coach Carl Robinson would see Castillo as a player that adds further competition on the right side of the Whitecaps' backline. He comes with good pedigree after being named last year's PDL Defender of the Year with Portland Timbers U-23s.” – Simon Fudge, Goal.com Canada
SB NATION: BEN POLK (F, SYRACUSE)
“The Whitecaps have seemingly always had the strategy of picking the best player available, and Polk has been very well received in several scouting reports. Some call him MLS-ready, some compare him to Dom Dwyer. Question marks abound in the Whitecaps attack, so Polk could find himself with some meaningful minutes if he does land in Vancouver.” – Jon Szekeres, Eighty Six Forever
