Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld was named to the MLS Team of the Week on Monday for his performance in the 'Caps 1-1 road draw against Nashville SC during Week 23.
The 26-year-old Scotsman grabbed his seventh assist across all competitions this season on Saturday night, as he whipped in a left-footed cross into the box for defender Javain Brown to tap home to give the 'Caps a late equalizer.
The assist marked the fifth consecutive match across all competitions in which Gauld has tallied an assist.
The attacking midfielder also recorded a team-high four chances created, a team-high eight shots, a team-high 24 passes in the final third, and 96% passing accuracy, the most out of any 'Caps starter.
Gauld becomes the first 'Caps player to be named to the Team of the Week three times this season, after previously receiving recognition for his performances in the 'Caps home match against Portland Timbers in Week 6 and in the club's 2-2 away draw against FC Cincinnati in Week 20.
Gauld will look to continue his fine form as the 'Caps return to BC Place to host Western Conference side Houston Dynamo FC this Friday, August 5. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. PT live on TSN and AM730, with the radio pre-game show starting at 6:30 p.m. PT. Tickets are available at www.whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
