Ryan Gauld named to MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 15

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday following his performance in the ‘Caps 1-1 draw against Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC at Lumen Field on Matchday 15.

Gauld rescued a point for the Blue and White as he dispatched a late penalty to keep the team unbeaten against their Cascadia rivals this season. The ‘Caps currently sit in first in the Cascadia Cup standings with seven points (2W-0L-1D) through three matches, as they look to secure back-to-back Cascadia Cup titles for the second time in their MLS era.

With his successful attempt from the spot, Gauld became the first player in the club’s MLS era to reach 30+ goals and 30+ assists across all competitions, bringing his total goal contributions for the club to 66 (30 goals, 36 assists).

The Scotsman is now up to four goals across all competitions this season, along with two assists. Gauld also recorded four chances created, four recoveries, two successful duels won, one successful tackle, and one big chance created against the Sounders.

This is the third time Gauld has been named to the MLS Team of the Matchday (Matchday 7, Matchday 10). Forward Brian White (Matchday 5, Matchday 11), forward Fafà Picault (Matchday 7), midfielder Alessandro Schöpf (Matchday 8), wingback Ali Ahmed (Matchday 4), defender Ranko Veselinović (Matchday 8), and goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka (Matchday 8) have also been named to the Team of the Matchday this season.
