Ryan Gauld called up to Scotland's men's national team for upcoming UEFA Nations League matches

VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld has been called up to Scotland's men's national team for upcoming UEFA Nations League matches in September.

Currently placed in League A, Group 1, Scotland are set to take part in a pair of matches in the opening round of Nations League group stage play. First up, they'll face Poland on Thursday, September 5 at Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland, with kickoff set for 11:45 a.m. PT.

Gauld and his country will then face Portugal on Sunday, September 8 at Estadio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal. Kickoff is set for 11:45 a.m. PT.

This marks the first time Gauld receives a call-up to Scotland's senior team since 2014, when he was called up for UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying matches against Georgia and Poland. The Scotsman will miss the 'Caps MLS regular season home match against FC Dallas on Saturday, September 7.

Gauld has previously featured for his country’s U-19 and U-21 sides in his youth, but has yet to make his debut for the senior side.

So far this season, Gauld has started 28 of his 30 appearances across all competitions for the 'Caps, recording 10 assists and a team-leading nine assists.

All-time, Gauld has made 111 starts and 123 appearances since joining Whitecaps FC in July 2021, tallying the most goal contributions in the club's MLS era with 36 goals and 43 assists across all competitions. The playmaker is the club's leader in assists in the MLS era and has also helped the team secure two Canadian Championships as well as two MLS Cup Playoffs berths during his time in Vancouver.
