VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Friday that centre back Roberto DomÃnguez has been called up to the El Salvador men’s national team for upcoming matches against Monserrat in Concacaf Nations League Qualifying, before facing Brazil in a friendly in Washington, D.C. during the upcoming FIFA international break.
El Salvador will travel to Monserrat’s Blakes Estate Stadium on September 8 in their first match of Nations League qualifying.
At stake in the 2018-19 Concacaf Nations League Qualifying is a spot in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, as well as the classification groups in Concacaf Nations League. From 68 qualifying matches, the top 10 nations will qualify for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup, while the top six nations will additionally qualify for Concacaf Nations League "A".
Following the match, El Salvador will travel to Washington, D.C. to face Brazil in an international friendly on September 11 at FedEx Field. DomÃnguez will return to Vancouver on September 12 and will not miss any Whitecaps FC matches while on international duty.
The 21-year-old defender has made 14 appearances for El Salvador since his debut in 2015. He was part of El Salvador’s 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup squad where they reached the quarterfinals before bowing out to United States. DomÃnguez most recently featured for his native country in a 1-0 win versus Honduras on June 3.
