Vancouver Whitecaps FC attacking midfielder Yordy Reyna has finished fourth in voting for the 2017 MLS Comeback Player of the Year award, Major League Soccer announced today.
The winner of the award, which honours a player who has overcome injuries and/or adversity in order to achieve success during the regular season, was Seattle Sounders FC striker Clint Dempsey, who was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat in 2016.
Reyna, for his part, suffered a fifth metatarsal fracture of his left foot in the preseason just a week after joining the team, forcing him to miss the first four months of the season.
The 24-year-old Peruvian returned to the lineup in July and made an immediate impact, recording six goals – including five game-winners – and four assists in 11 starts to help Whitecaps FC solidify a playoff position.
The award was voted on by MLS club technical staff, media, and current MLS players. Below is a breakdown of the voting results:
