REJUVENATED SQUAD: Whitecaps FC enter the fixture on full rest for the first time in five games, looking for a rejuvenated effort to kick off another busy swing. Saturday's match is the first of another five-game, 16-day stretch. Most members of the team travelled back to Vancouver on Monday. The squad reassembled in Portland on Wednesday and will take a charter flight to Seattle on matchday.
BACK-TO-BACK: For the second consecutive week, the 'Caps battle a Cascadia rival and a co-leader in the Western Conference standings. The weekend matchup versus the Sounders is the latest of a challenging 2020 slate of opponents - 11 of the 13 fixtures so far have been against opponents currently above the playoff line.
FOR THE TAKING: The 'Caps are just three points below the line in the wide open Western Conference. The roller coaster season has seen every club in the conference, top to bottom, go through at least a three-game winless streak. Whitecaps FC aim to regain their form from early September when they won three of four matches.
KEEPER OPTIONS: The 'Caps have a pair of experienced options in net in former Sounder Bryan Meredith and longtime Impact keeper Evan Bush with 18 combined MLS seasons between them. Meredith has 13 saves in the last two 'Caps matches. VWFC face a Sounders side that has scored at least three goals in their last six regular season wins, including a seven-goal outing against San Jose.
NEW DUOS: Lucas Cavallini and Fredy Montero got their first start together up front under their belts last week and could be deployed once again. The Sounders have a new pairing in the middle of their backline this season as well with Designated Player Xavier Arreaga and Yeimar Gomez Andrade. The twosome that shows their new chemistry could spell the difference in the matchup.
