WEEKLY STORYLINES
CANADIAN CLASH: Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to make it three wins in a week on Saturday as they take on Canadian rivals CF Montreal at Stade Saputo. The 'Caps are coming off a midweek 3-1 victory in St. Paul against Minnesota United FC, which saw Ryan Gauld record a hat trick of assists and Brian White become the club's leading goalscorer in MLS regular season play with 40 goals. Saturday's match will mark the 'Caps first visit to Stade Saputo since 2022. The last meeting between the two teams came last year in June, as Vancouver secured their second consecutive Voyageurs' Cup by beating the side 2-1 in the Canadian Championship Final. The ‘Caps will be looking to win three consecutive matches for the first time since the fall of 2022.
WORKING-CLASS ALL-STAR: After being named to the 2024 MLS All-Star roster, Ryan Gauld once again showed his brilliance on Wednesday in the 'Caps victory over Minnesota United. With his three assists, Gauld became the first player to record a trio of helpers in the same match since Inbeom Hwang in September 2019 and reached 76 goal contributions across all competitions for the club (35 goals, 41 assists). The Scotsman has now tallied 16 goal contributions in his last 17 MLS appearances, with 10 of those coming in the last eight matches, and has the third-most goal contributions in MLS since Matchday 15 with 11.
