WEEKLY STORYLINES

BLUE OVER VERDE: Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to MLS regular season action on Saturday with a Texas-sized showdown against Western Conference foes Austin FC. With 10 matches remaining, and six coming in the home comforts of BC Place, the ‘Caps enter Matchday 30 action sitting sixth in the West with a record of 11W-8L-5D (38 points) and two points away from fifth-placed Seattle Sounders FC. Vancouver also holds the fourth joint-best goal differential in the conference with +8. Saturday’s match will mark the second meeting of the season between the two teams and the eighth all-time, with the Blue and White tallying a record of 4W-1L-2D against Los Verdes.

ROAD WARRIORS: Saturday’s match in Austin will be the ‘Caps first road match in MLS play since July 13, when they claimed a dominant 4-1 victory over St. Louis CITY SC. Success on the road has been a theme for the ‘Caps this season, as they hold the Western Conference’s best away record (6W-4L-3D - 21 points) and the fourth best away record in the league overall. In fact, Vancouver is one win away from matching their best-ever MLS road record from 2015, when they posted 24 points thanks to a 7W-7L-3D record.

NEXT UP: Following the match against Austin, the ‘Caps are set to begin a home-heavy schedule at BC Place for their remaining matches of the regular season. First up, they’ll welcome FC Dallas on September 7 for their Next Gen Match and will follow it up with their 21st Century Match against San Jose Earthquakes on September 14. They'll also have a five-game homestand between the end of September and the start of October, which includes the TELUS Canadian Championship Final against Toronto FC on September 24.
