WEEKLY STORYLINES

BACK TO THE GRIND: After playing 11 games in 36 days and a well-deserved break, Vancouver Whitecaps FC return to MLS action this week as they hit the road for back-to-back road matches against Western Conference opposition. First up is a clash against Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, June 21 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The boys in Burgundy are in the midst of an eight-match winless run across all competitions and have yet to win at home in MLS play this season. Meanwhile, the 'Caps enter the match having posted a 4W-1L-2D record in their last seven matches across all competitions. The run includes capturing their second consecutive Voyageurs Cup, which makes them the first MLS team to secure silverware this year.

WE MEET AGAIN: Following the match against Colorado, the 'Caps will shift their focus towards their second road clash of the week as they face Los Angeles FC on Saturday, June 24 at BMO Stadium. The match will mark the third meeting this year between the two sides, with the two previous matches coming earlier this year in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals. LAFC enter Matchday 20 action with only one win in their last seven matches across all competitions, scoring three goals in the process.

INTERNATIONAL 'CAPS: Head coach Vanni Sartini will be looking to rely on his squad's depth over the course of the next week with several 'Caps away on international duty. Midfielder Ali Ahmed has been named to Canada's men's national team's roster for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup, while midfielder Julian Gressel is also Gold Cup bound with the U.S. men's national team. In addition, defender Javain Brown is with Jamaica's men's national team for international friendlies ahead of the Gold Cup and attacking midfielder Pedro Vite was called up to Ecuador's men's national team for a pair of international friendlies.
