VANCOUVER, BC – Do or die. Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to overturn a 2-1 deficit as they host the second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series against Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa this Thursday, February 27 at BC Place. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT. The 'Caps will be wearing their special edition Black History Month kit for the match.

Thursday will mark the second meeting between the 'Caps and Saprissa. Former 'Caps captain Kendall Waston featured in the opening leg and once again took to the field in Saprissa's league match at the weekend. The Tico trained with Saprissa in Vancouver on Tuesday and is expected to make his return to BC Place on Thursday night.

The 'Caps will need a clean sheet win or a win by two or more goals to progress to the quarterfinals. The aggregate winner of Thursday's clash will face LIGA MX giants CF Monterrey in the next round. Tickets for the match are still available at www.whitecapsfc.com/tickets.

WEEKLY STORYLINES

JAYDEN NELSON IS HERE: Vancouver Whitecaps FC started their 2025 MLS regular season with a bang, claiming a rampant 4-1 away victory over Cascadia rivals Portland Timbers in Jesper Sørensen's MLS head coaching debut. Ryan Gauld, Pedro Vite, and Sam Adekugbe found the back of the net for the 'Caps but the star of the day was new signing Jayden Nelson, who scored the fourth goal of the match and supplied three assists. The Canadian international became only the second player in the club's history to record a goal as well as three assists in a match, joining Alphonso Davies (June 9, 2018), and became the fourth 'Caps player to record four goal contributions in a match. Nelson, along with Vite, was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday.

DO OR DIE: All eyes are now on leg two of Round One of Concacaf Champions Cup action. The 'Caps will look to erase a 2-1 deficit against Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa at BC Place this Thursday, February 27, with the winner of the tie moving on to the quarterfinals to face LIGA MX giants CF Monterrey next week. Gauld, who now sits at 95 goal contributions across all competitions for Vancouver, scored the vital away goal in the first leg, meaning a clean sheet win or a win by two or more goals would be enough to punch a ticket to the next round. Thursday's match could mark the return of former club captain Kendall Waston to BC Place. The match will also see the 'Caps wear their special edition Black History Month kit in front of the home faithful.

MLS RETURNS TO BC PLACE: Following their Concacaf Champions Cup clash, the Blue and White will quickly shift focus towards their 2025 MLS home opener against defending MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy on Sunday, March 2. The 'Caps have posted a record of 6W-3L-3D in their last 12 home matches against LA, scoring 22 goals and keeping five clean sheets in the process. On another note, the Blue and White will also be looking to secure their first home opener win at BC Place since 2018 when they defeated CF Montréal thanks to a 2-1 victory. The Galaxy are coming off a 2-0 opening day home defeat to expansion side San Diego FC.
