WEEKLY STORYLINES
HISTORIC START: Vancouver Whitecaps FC have made history to begin their 2025 MLS regular season campaign. Last weekend, the 'Caps earned their third straight victory to open a regular season, accomplishing the feat for the first time in their MLS era. The 'Caps enter Matchday 4 action sitting atop the Western Conference with nine points and are one of two teams to begin this season with a perfect 3W-0L-0D record. The Blue and White lead the league in expected goals (8.09), as well as shots (52) and corners (24), while they have the second most goals (8), second best passing accuracy (89.5%), and are tied for second in key passes (36). Vancouver also lead the league with seven different players finding the back of the net. Defensively, the 'Caps are tied for the least shots against (7), second best aerial duels won (69.2%), and have allowed just two goals, which is tied for the fifth least goals against.
TAMING THE TOROS: After progressing in the Concacaf Champions Cup mid-week, the Blue and White have made their way to Frisco, Texas as they get set for a meeting with FC Dallas in their fourth MLS match of the season. The 'Caps have enjoyed success in their past trips to Toyota Stadium, winning two of their last three visits including a 3-1 victory in 2024 thanks to goals from MathÃas Laborda, Brian White, and Fafa Picault. Dating back to last summer, the 'Caps hold a 4W-2L-2D record in their last eight MLS regular season away matches, scoring 17 goals across that span. Los Toros, who are lead up top by the dangerous duo of Luciano Acosta and Petar Musa, have posted a 1W-1L-1D record after most recently falling 3-1 at home to Chicago Fire FC.
BRIAN WHITE'S ON FIRE: He just keeps on keeping on. Brian White once again came up clutch for the 'Caps on Wednesday night, as he scored the vital second goal against CF Monterrey to help the club progress to the quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup and surpass a LIGA MX side for the first time in the tournament. White, who's been called up for the USMNT's upcoming international window, is now up to four goals across all competitions this season, with two of those being game-winners. The Blue and White's MLS era leading goalscorer continues to chase more history for the club too, sitting six away from equaling Carl Valentine for fourth all-time in goals scored.
