WIN AND WE'RE IN: In their final MLS regular season match of the year, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to hit the road to face Western Conference adversaries Minnesota United FC on Decision Day this Sunday, October 9 at Allianz Field. With a win, the 'Caps would clinch their spot in the 2022 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and book their ticket to the postseason for the second straight season. Vancouver currently sits ninth in the West with 43 points going into the weekend's action, one point behind eighth placed Real Salt Lake, two points behind seventh placed Minnesota and three points behind sixth placed Portland Timbers.
RIGHT FORM, RIGHT TIME: The Blue and White are picking up form at the right time, winning three consecutive matches in MLS play for the first time since August 2021. Across those three matches, the team has beaten playoff contestants Los Angeles Galaxy and Austin FC, as well as Cascadia rivals Seattle Sounders FC, scoring seven goals and keeping two clean sheets in that span. The 'Caps are also the only playoff contestant in the West to win their last three matches.
RACKING UP THE GOODS: Across the last three matches, several 'Caps have found themselves racking up plenty of goal contributions. Attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld has tallied two goals as well as two assists, young Ecuadorian attacker Pedro Vite has recorded two goals and an assist, wingback LuÃs Martins has grabbed three assists and wingback Julian Gressel has claimed a goal and an assist. All four players, along with their teammates, will be looking to continue their fine form this Sunday in the hopes of securing the 'Caps a ticket to the playoffs.
LEAGUES CUP: A side note and result of Sunday's match will be seeding for Whitecaps FC in the newly expanded 2023 Leagues Cup between MLS and Liga MX. On Thursday the new format was announced, and if the 'Caps get the victory they will secure a higher seed for the group stage, which would allow them to host two matches at home in the group stage rather than one.
