WEEKLY STORYLINES

SIGHTS ON CASCADIA: After winning their third consecutive Canadian Championship in mid-week, Vancouver Whitecaps FC are set to quickly turn their focus back to MLS regular season action, as they begin a run of four consecutive home matches in MLS play. First up is a Cascadia rivalry match against Portland Timbers on Saturday. The 'Caps currently sit first in the Cascadia Cup standings with seven points and a 2W-1L-1D record. A win on Saturday would go a long way in helping them secure a second consecutive Cascadia Cup. Saturday will mark the third meeting of the season against the Timbers and the second at BC Place, with the 'Caps claiming a 3-2 victory back in March. Vancouver will continue their stretch run with another Cascadia clash on Wednesday, October 2 against Seattle Sounders FC.

RACE TO THE PLAYOFFS: With a win or draw, as well as some other results going there way on Saturday, the 'Caps could clinch their spot in the 2024 MLS Cup Playoffs. With a win, the 'Caps would need an FC Dallas loss or draw against Orlando City SC, while a draw would require a Dallas loss along with an Austin FC loss or draw against Real Salt Lake. Vancouver currently sits seventh in the Western Conference heading into Matchday 35 with 46 points, only five points behind second-placed Real Salt Lake. Clinching on Saturday would mark the third time in the last four seasons the 'Caps reach the MLS postseason and the seventh time all-time.
