WEEKLY STORYLINES

PLAYOFF POSITIONING: With three games remaining in the regular season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to rise up the Western Conference as every point in the standings counts towards playoff positioning and home field advantage in the postseason. The 'Caps, who host their 21st Century Match against Minnesota United FC on Saturday in a key matchup, currently sit seventh in the West with 47 points and a game in hand on most teams around them. A win over the Loons on Saturday combined with a Portland loss or draw against Dallas on Sunday will clinch the 'Caps a top seven finish in the West. Vancouver will then host LAFC in their regular season home finale on Sunday, October 13 and wrap up the regular season away from home against Real Salt Lake on Saturday, October 19. Only six points separate the 'Caps and third-placed Seattle Sounders FC at 53 points heading into Matchday 37 action.

NO FLY ZONE: Saturday's match will mark the second and final meeting of the regular season between the 'Caps and the Loons. The first meeting took place back in July, with the 'Caps securing a 3-1 victory behind goals from Brian White, Mathías Laborda, and Sebastian Berhalter to earn their first-ever win at Allianz Field. Ryan Gauld also notched a trio of assists, becoming the first player to earn three assists in a match since Inbeom Hwang did against LA Galaxy on September 29, 2019. The Blue and White will be looking to build on their 4W-2L-0D record at BC Place against the Loons, with their last meeting in Vancouver ending in a 3-2 win thanks to a Brian White brace and a Simon Becher gamewinner.
