Through the opening three matches of the 2025 MLS regular season, Vancouver Whitecaps FC sit atop the Western Conference standings with a 3W-0L-0D record, winning the first three games of a season for the first time in their MLS era. The 'Caps will aim to continue that momentum this week with a pair of clashes on the road. First up, the Blue and White will make their way to Torreón, Mexico for the crucial second leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 against CF Monterrey on Wednesday, March 12. Kickoff from Estadio Corona is set for 5:30 p.m. PT.

Wednesday will mark the second meeting between the 'Caps and Monterrey. It'll also mark the 10th time Vancouver faces a Mexican side in their MLS era (1W-4L-4D). The winner of Wednesday's contest will progress to the quarterfinals to face either Pumas UNAM or LD Alajuelense.

WEEKLY STORYLINES

HISTORIC START: Following their 2-0 victory over Canadian rivals CF Montréal on the weekend, Vancouver Whitecaps FC made history as they earned their third straight victory to open a regular season, accomplishing the feat for the first time in their MLS era. The 'Caps enter Matchday 4 action sitting atop the Western Conference with nine points and are one of two teams to begin this season with a perfect 3W-0L-0D record. The Blue and White lead the league in expected goals (8.09), as well as shots (52) and corners (24), while they have the second most goals (8), second best passing accuracy (89.5%), and are tied for second in key passes (36). Vancouver also lead the league with seven different players finding the back of the net. Defensively, the 'Caps are tied for the least shots against (7), second best aerial duels won (69.2%), and have allowed just two goals, which is tied for the fifth least goals against.

INTO THE THUNDER OF RAYADOS: A monumental task awaits. On Wednesday, the 'Caps play the second leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 tie against LIGA MX powerhouse CF Monterrey at Estadio Corona in Torreón, Mexico. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the first leg at BC Place last Wednesday, with the 'Caps taking Rayados to the brink and narrowly gaining the win. In order to progress to the quarterfinals, Vancouver will need a win or a draw equal to two or more goals. The winner of Wednesday's contest will face either LIGA MX outfit Pumas UNAM or Costa Rican side LD Alajuelense in the next round. Pumas won the first leg 2-0 at Estadio Olímpico Universitario in Mexico City, Mexico.

TAMING THE TOROS: After their mid-week Concacaf match, the Blue and White will make their way to Frisco, Texas for a meeting with FC Dallas in their fourth MLS match of the season. The 'Caps have enjoyed success in their past trips to Toyota Stadium, winning two of their last three visits including a 3-1 victory in 2024 thanks to goals from Mathías Laborda, Brian White, and Fafa Picault. Dating back to last summer, the 'Caps hold a 4W-2L-2D record in their last eight MLS regular season away matches, scoring 17 goals across that span. Los Toros, who are lead up top by the dangerous duo of Luciano Acosta and Petar Musa, have posted a 1W-1L-1D record after most recently falling 3-1 at home to Chicago Fire FC.
