VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to bounce back with a pair of key matches this week. First up, the 'Caps continue their road to the four-peat in the TELUS Canadian Championship with a trip to Hamilton, Ontario for the first leg of the semifinals against Canadian Premier League side Forge FC this Wednesday, August 13. Kickoff from Hamilton Stadium is scheduled for 4 p.m. PT.
WEEKLY STORYLINES
THE FINAL STRETCH: It’s set to be a historic week for Vancouver Whitecaps FC, as the club welcomes newest signing Thomas Müller to the city. The German legend will arrive in Vancouver this Wednesday, August 13 and will be presented at his introductory press conference on Thursday, August 14. Müller joins the ‘Caps after a distinguished 25-year career with German giants FC Bayern Munich, winning a club-record 33 titles and finishing as the club’s all-time leader in appearances, as well as assists. Müller will practice with his new teammates for the first time on Friday, August 15, ahead of the team’s home match against Houston Dynamo FC on Sunday, August 17.
‘CAPS TAKE ON THE HAMMER: The Blue and White are set to take part in two key matches this week as the month of August heats up. First on the docket is a visit to Hamilton, Ontario for the first leg of the TELUS Canadian Championship semifinals and a first-ever meeting against Canadian Premier League side Forge FC. The ‘Caps, who advanced to the semifinals after defeating Valour FC in the quarterfinals, will be looking to gain the upper hand in the tie with the second leg scheduled for Tuesday, September 16 at BC Place. The winner of the tie will host the final against the winner of Atlético Ottawa and Vancouver FC of Langley.
THE PLACE WHERE WE BELONG: Following the first leg against Forge, the 'Caps will return to MLS regular season action for a home match against Western Conference side Houston Dynamo FC this Sunday, August 17, as they hope to improve their 7W-2L-2D home record in MLS play. Of their nine remaining regular season matches, the 'Caps will play six of those in the home comforts of BC Place, starting with Sunday's clash and including matches against St. Louis, Philadelphia, Portland, San Jose, and Dallas. Sunday's clash with Houston will mark the second and final meeting of the regular season between the two sides, with Vancouver claiming an impressive 3-0 away win back on July 16 thanks to goals from Emmanuel Sabbi, Sebastian Berhalter, and Brian White.
