WEEKLY STORYLINES

WELCOME TO VANCOUVER: With 10 matches remaining in MLS regular season play, Vancouver Whitecaps FC enter the Leagues Cup 2024 break sitting fifth in the Western Conference with a 11W-8L-5D record (38 points) and games in hand on several teams around them in the standings. Before beginning their Leagues Cup campaign, the 'Caps are set to welcome Welsh side Wrexham AFC for a match at BC Place on Saturday, July 27. Wrexham will compete in League One - England's third-tier - during the 2024/25 season after securing a second consecutive promotion. Formed in 1864, they are the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest professional team in the world. The club is owned by Rob McElhenney and Vancouver native Ryan Reynolds.

LEAGUES CUP IS BACK: Following the match against Wrexham, the Blue and White will quickly shift their focus towards the opening group stage match of Leagues Cup 2024 against MLS Western Conference rivals LAFC on Tuesday, July 30 at BMO Stadium. The match will mark the second meeting of the year and the eighth meeting between the two teams since April 2023 - the two teams previously met in MLS regular season, MLS Cup Playoffs, and Concacaf Champions Cup play. In last year's edition of Leagues Cup, the 'Caps went undefeated in regulation by claiming a 2-1 win over LA Galaxy, drawing 2-2 with Club León, and drawing 1-1 with Tigres UANL in the Round of 32. Vancouver will finalize group stage play with a first-ever meeting against Club Tijuana on Saturday, August 3 at BC Place.
