WEEKLY STORYLINES

2025 OFF TO A BANG: Fresh off a thrilling 2-1 victory over reigning MLS Cup champions LA Galaxy, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to continue their impressive start to the season this week with a pair of home matches at BC Place. With three consecutive wins under new head coach Jesper Sørensen's belt, the 'Caps will be looking to earn four straight wins across all competitions for the first time since March-April 2015 when they face CF Monterrey in first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 on Wednesday. Brian White has led the way with three goals in the last two matches, while Ryan Gauld, Pedro Vite, Sam Adekugbe, Jayden Nelson, and Ali Ahmed have also chipped in with goal contributions to begin the year. In MLS play, the 'Caps lead the league in expected goals (6.13), passing per cent (91.3%), key passes (27), and shots (38).

SHUTTING DOWN RAYADOS: Enter the monster of CF Monterrey. The 'Caps are set to face one of Concacaf's biggest powerhouses on Wednesday in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16. Nicknamed 'Rayados', Monterrey are coming off a 4-2 victory at home against Santos Laguna in LIGA MX Clausura play and sit ninth in the standings entering Wednesday's match. The squad features players with plenty of European experience, such as midfielders Sergio Canales, Jesús Corona, and Oliver Torres, as well as defender Sergio Ramos. The 'Caps progressed to the Round of 16 after securing a 3-2 aggregate win over Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa, while Monterrey defeated fellow Canadian outfit Forge FC over two legs.

ALLEZ LES 'CAPS: Following Sunday's win over LA Galaxy, Whitecaps FC are one of five teams that remain perfect heading into Week 3 of MLS regular season action. The ‘Caps will now look to continue the trend this Saturday in an all-Canadian clash against rivals CF Montréal at BC Place. Vancouver have equalled their best start in MLS since 2018 and a win against Montréal would mark the first time the club has started with three consecutive wins in league play. The last time the Blue and White won three straight league matches was back in September-October 2022. In addition, the 'Caps have won six of their last seven encounters with Montréal at BC Place across all competitions, scoring 18 goals in the process.
