This coming Wednesday, February 29, marks the fifth annual Pink Shirt Day, where local citizens are asked to wear pink to support the fight against bullying. As part of the event, you will find local celebrities and youth on popular Vancouver street corners selling pink shirts and pins. All proceeds go to the Boys and Girls Club of South Coast BC and to the CKNW Orphans’ fund.
“No one should have to suffer from bullying," said Whitecaps FC captain Jay DeMerit. "Wear pink to support the cause, because bullying stops here.”
The pink shirt movement started as a protest against a bullying incident at a Nova Scotia high school and has since grown into a yearly “anti-bullying day” event. Last year, over 160,000 people committed on Facebook to wear pink and help stop bullying.
