HOUSTON, TX – After an opening day 2-1 win vs. Montreal Impact, Vancouver Whitecaps FC will look to keep things rolling on Saturday against Houston Dynamo in their first road match of 2018.
KICKOFF: 3 p.m. PT | TV: TSN 1/4 | RADIO: TSN 1040
Here are the key storylines to watch.
STORYLINES:
Milestone match: Saturday could be a milestone match for Kei Kamara, who is one game away from 300 in Major League Soccer. The 33-year-old striker, who spent two seasons with Houston back in 2008-09, is also sitting on 99 MLS regular season goals after opening his account with Whitecaps FC last weekend at BC Place.
High-flying Dynamo: Houston opened the 2018 season with a dominant 4-0 win vs. Atlanta United FC last weekend. All four goals, courtesy of Andrew Wenger, Philippe Senderos, Mauro Manotas, and Darwin Ceren, came in the first half.
Something’s gotta give: No MLS team has won more games away from home than Vancouver (17) since the start of 2015. They were also the best road team in the Western Conference last season. On the other hand, Houston was the best home team with a 12W-1L-4D record. And the 'Caps have never won at BBVA Compass Stadium. Something's gotta give!
KEY MATCHUP:
Alphonso Davies (LW) vs. Alberth Elis (RW): Davies, 17, and Elis, 22, are two of the most exciting young wingers in MLS – and they each starred on opening day. Davies, who recorded a goal and an assist, was flying down the left flank all match, while Elis set up two goals in what MLSsoccer.com referred to as an “MVP-like performance.” This should be a dandy.
QUOTABLE:
"300 games? Oh wow. That means it’s true: they call me old for a reason. I’m honoured. Hopefully I can play a lot more games because I’m not done yet. I definitely want to keep playing and keep getting wins. I’m only playing for one reason and that hasn’t happened yet." - Kei Kamara on playing 300 matches in MLS.
"Having the atmosphere that it was on Sunday...it definitely boosted us to the win."
