Here are the key storylines to watch.
FEELING HOT HOT HOT
The ‘Caps have been on fire as of late, propelling to the top of the West thanks to a six-match unbeaten run in which they’ve earned four victories.
Can they continue their fine form on Saturday?
Vancouver’s longest unbeaten run since joining MLS in 2011 is eight matches.
DYNAMIC DUO
A big part of Vancouver’s recent success has been the play of striker Fredy Montero and attacking midfielder Yordy Reyna. Montero has six goals and three assists in his last seven starts, while Reyna has two goals and two assists in his last three.
The combination of Montero’s finishing ability, creativity, and movement coupled with Reyna’s pace and desire to take on opposing defenders has made for quite the partnership so far.
And the best part? They seem to be getting better each game.
BIG ABSENCE
The ‘Caps certainly aren’t expecting a walk in the park against a Rapids side that sit at the bottom of the table in MLS. Colorado is coming off a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo and 1-1 draw with New York City FC, two of the stronger teams in MLS this season, and have nothing to lose at this point.
Vancouver will also be without the services of centre back and captain Kendall Waston, who will be serving a one-match suspension due to caution accumulation.
“I’ve been in this league a long time,” said Whitecaps FC defender Jordan Harvey. “There are no easy games, whether the team’s at the top or the bottom. Even if they’re at the bottom, they have nothing to lose, they’re going to come in here free flowing, so it will be a difficult game for us.”
