It’s gameday for Vancouver Whitecaps FC goalkeeper David Ousted.
Ousted and the 2015 MLS All-Star Team are set to take on English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur tonight at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado (6 p.m. PT kickoff on TSN).
The 30-year-old Dane was one of two goalkeepers named to the MLS All-Star Team, which he calls a “great honour.”
“But like I said to the guys in the locker room, it’s an honour for the team,” Ousted told whitecapsfc.com. “Without them, I’m not an all-star.”
The best of David Ousted so far this season
That may be true, but Ousted is still a worthy selection – to say the least.
The 6-foot-4 keeper has played a massive part in Vancouver’s success so far this season – the ‘Caps are currently second in the Western Conference and third in Major League Soccer. His most memorable performance came back on June 20, when he denied 2014 Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips from the penalty spot – not once, but twice.
After 22 matches, Ousted leads MLS with 11 wins and has the second highest shutout total (7). He’s also won a league-high four Save of the Week awards, including three in a row during a period in June and July, and was the MLS Player of the Month for June.
Ousted has never played in an all-star game before, so he isn’t quite sure what to expect. His back line should know what to expect from him, though.
“Yeah, I get to scream at some of them now,” Ousted said jokingly. “No, it will be fun to get down there, see the other guys, and play a good team in Tottenham. I’ll take it as the great experience it is and we’ll see how it goes.”
