Vancouver Whitecaps midfielder Martin Nash has been named in the latest USL-1 Team of the Week. The Canadian international earned the accolade after scoring the Whitecaps winning goal in last Thursday’s 1-0 home win over Minnesota Thunder. The result allowed Bob Lilley’s side to secure a berth in the league playoffs later this month. Nash was one of five midfielders to be selected in the all-star XI for Week 20, with the Victoria, BC, native joined by Charleston Battery’s Stephen Armstrong, Miami FC’s Brazilian veteran Zinho, and the Atlanta Silverbacks pair of Scott Buete and Tony McManus. Three defenders also made the weekly team, with Montreal Impact’s Mauricio Vincello and Portland Timbers’ Cameron Knowles both selected, while Minnesota’s Kyle Zenoni earned the USL-1 Player of the Week award after his two goals in the Thunder’s surprise 2-1 victory at Seattle Sounders last Friday. Portland’s Josh Wicks was the week’s top goalkeeper after claiming a clean sheet in the Timbers’ 1-0 win at Carolina RailHawks. Montreal’s Charles Gbeke and Miami’s Nico Mosquera were the two forwards to be selected. Gbeke scored both goals in the Impact’s 2-0 win over Rochester Raging Rhinos on Friday night, while Mosquera struck Miami’s winning goal in a 3-2 success over Charleston on Sunday.
