Yesterday, we looked at some of the must-see Vancouver Whitecaps FC home matches of 2016. Now, we turn our attention to some of the bigger away fixtures.
#CapsOnTour, anyone?
SATURDAY, MARCH 12 VS. SPORTING KANSAS CITY
Might as well start with the first road match.
And if Vancouver’s visit to KC last year is any indication, this one should be a dandy. In the end, the ‘Caps fell 4-3 after surrendering three goals in the final 10 minutes, but the match certainly wasn’t short on entertainment value.
I’m sure Kendall Waston and Dom Dwyer are looking forward to this one too…
SATURDAY, MARCH 19 (AND SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 17) VS. SEATTLE SOUNDERS FC
The proximity alone makes this a trip worth making.
And in recent years, the ‘Caps have had all sorts of success at CenturyLink Field in MLS competition. They’ve now won three straight games, including last year’s 3-0 thumping.
SATURDAY, APRIL 30 VS. NEW YORK CITY FC
This is a long trip, but it could be an epic one.
Watching the ‘Caps take on the likes of Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and David Villa at Yankee Stadium? Yeah, I wouldn’t want to miss that.
Last year’s match vs. NYCFC was also one of the most entertaining ones of the season.
SATURDAY, MAY 14 VS. TORONTO FC
It’s Toronto FC. This is a fixture ‘Caps supporters always have circled in their calendar.
Last year, TFC spoiled Vancouver’s home opener with a 3-1 win. Can the ‘Caps shut down reigning league MVP Sebastian Giovinco and exact their revenge in 2016?
SUNDAY, MAY 22 VS. PORTLAND TIMBERS
Have to think this will be the most popular trip for the #CapsOnTour.
It’s Vancouver’s lone visit to Portland, who also happen to be the defending MLS Cup champions, and it conveniently comes on a long weekend (Monday, May 23 is Victoria Day).
Thank you, MLS schedule makers.
MONDAY, JULY 4 VS. LA GALAXY
Last year, Whitecaps FC snapped LA Galaxy’s 29-match home unbeaten run with a historic 1-0 win at the StubHub Center. And this year, they’ll be looking to spoil LA’s Independence Day bash.
This will be Vancouver’s first-ever Monday match in the MLS era.
