MLS Power Rankings: 'The ‘Caps have redefined themselves'

Huddle - white - 2017

The ‘Caps were the biggest movers in this week’s MLSsoccer.com power rankings, jumping up five spots after a 2-1 win at Montreal Impact and a month in which they posted a 3W-2L-0D record. Here’s a look at where Whitecaps FC rank in the various power rankings around the league.

“The 'Caps have redefined themselves already this season, and are less reliant upon open-field speed than at any time in their recent history. That doesn't mean they're a “possession” team per se, but it's unquestionable that they're more comfortable when the game's compact than they used to be.”

“After playing well in a losing effort away from home last week, the Whitecaps put forth one of their best performances of the season in a 2-1 win at Montreal. The team had an unexpected hero in defensive midfielder Andrew Jacobson, who hit a gorgeous volleyed goal and had multiple key plays throughout the game. Every Vancouver win has been followed by a loss this season. This weekend, it plays at last-place Colorado with a chance to buck the trend.”

“The Whitecaps were down a goal on the road and across the continent, then fought back for a massive 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact. Andrew Jacobson, Cristian Techera and Matias Laba were all excellent, powering Vancouver to jump three spots after their surprise victory.”

Whitecaps FC continue their season-long four-match road trip on Friday night vs. Colorado Rapids (7 p.m. PT on TSN1/4 and TSN 1040 radio).
