VANCOUVER, BC – The Western Conference-leading ‘Caps extended their winning streak to three matches on Saturday night with a dominant 4-0 win over Real Salt Lake at BC Place.
Turns out the win was a momentous one for Whitecaps FC – for the reasons listed below.
LUCKY NUMBER 13
No, we’re not referring to #13 Cristian Techera (how about that performance though)?
Saturday’s win was Vancouver’s 13th of the season, which surpasses their total from 2014 and matches their single-season MLS record.
YEAR | WINS | LOSSES | DRAWS | POINTS |
2011 | 6 | 18 | 10 | 28 |
2012 | 11 | 13 | 10 | 43 |
2013 | 13 | 12 | 9 | 48 |
2014 | 12 | 8 | 14 | 50 |
2015 (to date) | 13 | 8 | 3 | 42 |
The crazy part? There are still 10 games to go.
Talk about progress.
Along these lines, David Ousted now has 13 wins on the season, which breaks his own previous record for most wins by a 'Caps goalkeeper in an MLS season.
IN ROBBO WE TRUST
Carl Robinson: the winningest coach in Whitecaps FC’s MLS history.
It’s got a good ring to it, doesn’t it?
With a 25W-16L-17D regular season record, Robinson now has the most wins by a Whitecaps FC coach in MLS. Something tells me there will be many more to come.
200TH MLS GOAL
Techera’s first goal was also noteworthy, in that it was Whitecaps FC’s 200th goal in MLS (including the MLS Cup Playoffs).
Not a bad night’s work for the Blue and White.
