Dear ‘Caps fans and supporters,
I am truly honoured to be the new head coach of this club.
In the short time that I’ve been here, I have already seen how much you care for this team. It’s something I already knew, having seen the atmosphere at BC Place during Whitecaps games and how you support our Canadian national teams, but it’s even more than I anticipated.
There is a true passion towards this sport and club in Vancouver.
And I take that as a big responsibility. I am accountable to that. I am accountable to you.
We think about you with every decision we make. We are building a team of players who will fight for the club every day. We want you to come to the stadium and see a group of players who show up every game and never give up – a group of players who are willing to do whatever it takes to achieve something special. This is the type of collective mentality that we will have at our club. And I want you to know that I am extremely committed to making this work.
For the last 12 years, I think I’ve been preparing myself for this job. Not any job. This one.
As a head coach, I won the NASL with the San Francisco Deltas. The Whitecaps won the NASL in 1979 (and I’m very excited to see what’s in store for the 40th anniversary celebrations). I won the USL with Montreal Impact. The Whitecaps have won the USL as well.
And now, we both share the dream of winning an MLS Cup.
I know you share that dream as well.
Together, I hope we can make that dream a reality. You are a big part of this club. When the times get tough, it’s your energy and support that is going to propel us forward.
I can’t wait to see you in the stands on Saturday.
Sincerely,
Marc Dos Santos
