VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Darren Mattocks is set to join Swedish side IFK Göteborg on a weeklong training stint.
Mattocks, who recently completed a training stint with Football League Championship side A.F.C. Bournemouth, will train with IFK Göteborg from January 11-17 during the club’s preseason training camp in Turkey.
The 24-year-old striker, who finished second on Whitecaps FC with six goals this past season, recently helped lead his native Jamaica to the 2014 Caribbean Cup championship. Mattocks scored three goals in four matches and was the co-recipient of the tournament’s Golden Boot. The title also earned Jamaica a berth in the Copa América Centenario, a 2016 tournament that will feature the best national teams from both the CONMEBOL and CONCACAF regions.
The Portmore, Jamaica native has 16 goals and five assists in 71 MLS regular season appearances with Whitecaps FC over the last three seasons.
