VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed today that striker Darren Mattocks has been called up by Jamaica for their upcoming international friendlies against Serbia and Switzerland.
Mattocks, 23, will join the Jamaican senior men’s national team on Sunday, May 25 in New York. The Reggae Boyz face Serbia on May 26 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, before heading to Europe for a meeting with Switzerland on May 30 in Lucerne, Switzerland.
The 5-foot-10, 155-pound striker, will join Whitecaps FC in Portland following the Switzerland match and will be available for selection on June 1 against the Timbers.
Mattocks, Vancouver’s second overall selection in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, has 12 goals and five assists in 50 MLS regular season appearances with Whitecaps FC. He also scored Vancouver’s lone goal in the club’s first appearance in the MLS Cup Playoffs – a 2-1 defeat to LA Galaxy in 2012. This season, Mattocks has two goals and a team-high three assists in nine appearances.
Internationally, Mattocks has scored three goals in 13 appearances with the Jamaican senior men’s national team. He notched a brace in his most recent outing – a 5-0 win over St. Lucia on March 5.
