Ring of Honour—Andrea Neil
A prodigy in Canadian women’s soccer, Andrea Neilwill be inducted into the Whitecaps FC Ring of Honour this Sunday, 10 years after captaining Whitecaps FC to their first W-League Championship on August 8, 2004 – a title that remains one of the highlights of her career.
Among many of her incredible accomplishments, Neil represented the Canadian women’s national team 132 times, including playing in a record four FIFA Women’s World Cups. The Vancouver native also captained Whitecaps FC women for the first six years of its existence and led the team to two United Soccer Leagues W-League Championships. She left Whitecaps FC women as the club’s all-time leader in games, minutes played, and assists and had her number five retired. She also enjoyed an illustrious 18-year career with the Canadian women’s national team.
The former ‘Caps midfielder will be the second player inducted into Whitecaps FC’s Ring of Honour, which was launched this year in celebration of the club’s 40th anniversary. Bob Lenarduzzi was the first inductee celebrated on the ‘Caps 40th Anniversary Match in May. Whitecaps FC alumni and current club ambassador Carl Valentine will be inducted at the September 10th match, and Whitecaps FC alumni Domenic Mobilio will be posthumously inducted at the October 4 match with his family in attendance.
What’s summer without yoga? Whitecaps FC are inviting all yogis to join a post-match yoga session taking place this coming Sunday, August 10 following the ‘Caps encounter against defending MLS Cup champions Sporting Kansas City. This peaceful practice improves breathing and benefits your heart, while it’s also believed to help you live longer and reverse natural processes that happen as your body ages. So make sure to bring your best yoga poses this Sunday night!
