- Manager Carl Robinson makes nine changes to his starting lineup from Wednesday’s 1-1 draw versus Seattle Sounders FC. The only repeat starters are centre back and captain Kendall Waston and left back Jordan Harvey.
- This is the first time this combination of goalkeeper + back four is playing together.
- Centre back Aaron Maund makes his Whitecaps FC debut. Maund was acquired on August 9 from Real Salt Lake in exchange for Vancouver's natural third-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.
- Winger Brek Shea makes his first return to Orlando City SC. Shea, who spent two seasons in Orlando, was acquired by the ‘Caps in February 2017 via trade in exchange for forward Giles Barnes.
- This is the longest trip Whitecaps FC will make this season (including their visit to Monterrey, Mexico in the CONCACAF Champions League), as well as their third match in the span of eight days.
- After the match, the following players will be away on international duty but will not miss any MLS matches:
- Alphonso Davies, Marcel de Jong, along with Sam Adekugbe (Canada MNT): International friendly vs. Jamaica on Saturday, September 2 at BMO Field
- Kendall Waston, Christian Bolaños (Costa Rica MNT): World Cup qualifying vs. USA on Friday, September 1 at Red Bull Arena, and vs. Mexico on Tuesday, September 5 at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica
- Stefan Marinović, along with WFC2 players Deklan Wynne and Myer Bevan (New Zealand MNT): World Cup qualifying vs. Solomon Islands, home leg on Friday, September 1 at North Habrour Stadium, away leg on Tuesday, September 5 at Lawson Tama Stadium
