Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson keeps the same back four that has posted a clean sheet in the last two matches, but makes five changes to the front six.
Russell Teibert and Andrew Jacobson replace MatÃas Laba (suspended) and Pedro Morales (left hip flexor strain) at central mid, Marco Bustos replaces Kekuta Manneh on the wing, and Masato Kudo and Blaz Pérez draw in for Nicolás Mezquida (right knee sprain) and Octavio Rivero (right hip flexor strain).
Today is the first time that three Canadians internationals – Fraser Aird, Marco Bustos, and Russell Teibert – have started for Whitecaps FC in MLS regular season play. There are also two Canadians on the bench in Sam Adekugbe and Kianz Froese.
This will be the first-ever MLS regular season start for Bustos, a 19-year-old graduate of Whitecaps FC’s Residency program. Bustos scored the game-winner for Canada’s U-20s in a friendly against England’s U-20s last month.
It will also be the first appearance of the season for Teibert, who underwent left ankle surgery in December of last year and strained his left calf during the preseason.
The ‘Caps have loaned centre back Cole Seiler and midfielders Deybi Flores and Ben McKendry to WFC2 for Sunday’s home opener vs. Sacramento Republic at UBC Thunderbird Stadium.
