Whitecaps FC 2 centre back Finn Linder and midfielder Jay Herdman have been named to the New Zealand roster for the upcoming 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup set to be played in Argentina starting on May 20.
Both players are in their second seasons with WFC2 after coming through the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy. In MLS NEXT Pro action this season, Linder has scored on goal in two starts, while Herdman has recorded one goal and two assists while starting three of his five appearances.Â
Herdman played with the All Whites U-20 team during qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scoring three goals during the OFC tournament.
Linder and Herdman were also both part of a recent New Zealand U-23 national team two-match series against China's U-23 team. Linder made one appearance, while Herdman appeared in both matches, scoring one goal.
