VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC Girls Elite Academy continued their 2023 League1 BC campaign with a 7-1 victory against Rivers FC at Thunderbird Stadium this Sunday afternoon.
The away side were awarded a penalty kick in the 16th minute. Rivers FC forward Esi Lufo converted from the spot to give her side an early 1-0 lead.
The Blue & White would respond minutes later, as Jeneva Hernandez-Gray made a run down the left flank, the midfielder played a quick pass to Anna Hauer. Her strike would level the game in the 19th minute of the match.
As the half progressed, the home side quickly found the advantage. Mya Archibald sent a long powerful strike from the left side of the field, which found its way into the top corner in the 23rd minute.
Later on, Kierra Blundell played a through ball into the final third, which connected to Hauer, who would then find herself a brace in the 42nd minute of the match.
After the half time interval, Blundell would win the ball back in the final third, her attempt on target was followed by a strong save from Rivers FC goalkeeper Cara Santaga in the 47th minute.
Moments later, fullback Iba Oching made a run down the left side of the field. As her pass connected to Hauer, the midfielder completed her hat-trick in the 50th minute of the match.
The home side continued to build on opportunities in the second half. As Jaime Perrault made a play on the right side of the field, Joy Kimwemwe’s finish made it 5-1 in the 53rd minute.
With the rest of the match unfolding, Hernandez-Gray dribbled her way through the attacking half, her strong display was concluded with a strike going into the cage within the 66th minute of the match.
As the game neared its end, Emma Yee made a run into the final third and sprung herself into an attacking opportunity. The substitute’s solo effort gave her side a 7-1 advantage in the 81st minute.
Whitecaps FC Girls Elite’s next match will be at Ken Woods Field against Altitude FC this upcoming Friday, May 12 for a 6:00 p.m. PT kickoff.
