VANCOUVER, BC – Whitecaps FC Girls Elite fell to a near 2-1 loss against TSS Rovers at Ken Woods Field in UBC on Saturday afternoon.
The match began with the ‘Caps scoring the first goal of the game. After the ball was won back in the midfield, forward Sienna Gibson’s strike found its way into the back of the net in the 10th minute.
Moments later, Gibson once again caused problems for the Rovers backline, as she went on a run through midfield and found midfielder Emma Yee, who's volleyed shot was strongly parried away by goalkeeper Camellia Xu in the 42nd minute of the match.
After the half time interval, TSS Rovers had an opportunity in the area following a corner kick. The ball found its way to forward Delana Friesen, whose tap in would even the match at 1-1 in the 57th minute.
As the match progressed, Rovers sprung themselves in a counter attack. Midfielder Maya Rogers placed a quick ball to forward Kyara Armenta, whose shot inside the area would put her squad ahead in the 86th minute of the match.
The ‘Caps looked find an equalizer in the later stages of the match, but ran out of time as the final whistle blew at Ken Woods Field. Whitecaps FC Girls Elite are on the road next Sunday, June 4 as they visit Victoria Highlanders FC at Centennial Stadium, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. PT.
