League1 BC: 'Caps bow out in semifinals

NORTH VANCOUVER, BC – A young 'Caps side battled valiantly, but ultimately fell 3-1 to a game Altitude FC side who made history by qualifying for their first League1 BC championship final.

With several players called up to Whitecaps FC 2 (WFC2) in MLS NEXT Pro, the 'Caps brought in younger players from the the Whitecaps FC BMO U-17 and U-16 academy teams.

The home side opened the scoring in front of their Kinsmen Field crowd in the 16th minute. Former Whitecaps FC BMO Academy player Oliver Herbert got loose in the box and finished it to make it 1-0.

The 'Caps equalized in the 71st minute, through 16-year-old Ethan Stiver. The youngster kep his composure in the box and cooly finished to make it 1-1.

Altitude would not be denied, however, and found the winner in the 79th minute as Lucas Booth struck low from the top of the box. Herbert would add one more in the 89th minute for a 3-1 final score.

Congrtaulations to Altitude FC, who will now face TSS Rovers next Sunday, August 4 at Swangard Stadium in the League1 BC championship final. The women's final, featuring Whitecaps FC versus Burnaby FC, will be played at 1 p.m. PT, followed by the men's final at 4 p.m. PT.
