VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC confirmed on Monday that centre back Kendall Waston has been called up to the Costa Rican national team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
Waston will be eligible for the Ticos if they advance to the quarterfinal stage. Costa Rica won their opener versus Honduras this past Friday, July 7. They play Canada on Tuesday, July 11 (live on TSN1 at 4:30 p.m.), then French Guiana on Friday, July 14. The top two teams from each group and the two best third-placed teams qualify for the quarterfinals.
Waston has two goals in 18 international appearances for Costa Rica, most recently starting their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Trinidad and Tobago last June.
MLS is on a break for the group stage of the competition. The quarterfinal round is set for July 19-20, and the semifinals are slated for July 22-23, before the tournament culminates with the July 26 final.
Whitecaps FC are back in action on Wednesday, July 19 when they visit LA Galaxy at StubHub Center (TSN, TSN Radio 1040).
