Vancouver Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy midfielder Junior Lopez-Cruz has been called up by the Guatemala U-17 national team for the upcoming Concacaf U-17 Championship.
Lopez-Cruz will attend the training camp starting on January 15, with Guatemala then hosting the tournament from February 11-26. The top four teams will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru.
"This is an exciting opportunity for Junior to represent Guatemala at the U-17 level," said Dante Marconato, Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy U-16 head coach. "Not only is it an honour to represent his country, but it also provides him with the chance to compete with some of the best youth players in CONCACAF. We know that he is eager to impress and we look forward to following his progress in the coming weeks.Â
The midfielder from New Westminster, BC joined the Whitecaps FC BMO MLS Academy in 2021 from Mountain United FC.
