NEW YORK – Major League Soccer announced today that an Independent Review Panel has unanimously rescinded the one-game suspension and accompanying fine for the red card issued to Vancouver Whitecaps defender Erik Godoy in the 75th minute of Vancouver’s match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday.
As a result of the Whitecaps FC appeal, Godoy is eligible to play in Vancouver’s next regular season game on Saturday against Real Salt Lake.
The Independent Review Panel consists of one representative from the United States Soccer Federation, one representative from the Canadian Soccer Association, and one independent representative nominated by the Professional Referee Organization.
The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued an undisclosed fine to Godoy for his failure to leave the field in a timely and orderly manner after receiving the red card.
