Inbeom Hwang played the full 90 minutes for South Korea today in a 2-1 win over Colombia.
The 22-year-old started as the attacking midfielder in Paulo Bento’s 4-1-3-2 formation and helped set up Korea’s opening goal scored by Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min. Hwang won the ball in midfield before starting the attacking phase of play with a forward pass to Hwang Ui-jo, who then played in Son.
Hwang now has 14 caps with the South Korean national team.
At the club level, Hwang has been one of Vancouver’s most influential players to start 2019, having played the full 90 minutes in all three matches thus far. He leads the team with eight chances created and nine shot attempts. He also recorded an assist in Vancouver’s season opener against Minnesota and was voted man of the match the following week against RSL.
Hwang now returns to Vancouver ahead of Saturday’s Cascadia derby against Seattle Sounders FC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT on TSN1 and TSN 1040 radio and tickets are still available.
