This is how you celebrate a derby win: 'It turned into a harder smack and then a harder smack'

Parker Waston smack

No, Tim Parker and Kendall Waston don’t hate each other.

Quite the opposite, actually.

You may have noticed Vancouver’s centre backs getting in each other’s faces – literally –  following Friday’s 2-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC. If you didn’t, our club photographer extraordinaire Bob Frid caught some great shots of the “incident.”

See for yourself.

And here's the video evidence.

Waston, of course, is known for his face-grabbing and slapping celebrations. But this one was on another level entirely.

“It was kind of like a college roommate happy celebration thing,” Parker joked with reporters on Tuesday. “One little smack happened and then it turned into a harder smack and then a harder smack. It was kind of funny … but it did hurt.”

Oh, the joys of a derby victory.

The ‘Caps will look to make it two in a row on Saturday when they visit league-leading Portland Timbers at Providence Park (1 p.m. PT on CTV/TSN and TSN 1040 radio).

Don’t be surprised if Parker wears a mask.
