PLAYOFF PICTURE: Whitecaps FC enter the last 16 days of the MLS regular season holding down eighth place and the last playoff spot in the Western Conference. Just ahead by three points are spots fifth through seventh, including Saturday's opponent in the Earthquakes.
HIGH STAKES TABLE: The 'Caps play the first of four matches at Providence Park to round out the regular season. Stakes are high for each fixture - playoff positioning against the Quakes this weekend and versus LA Galaxy on Decision Day, bookending a pair of Cascadia derby matches versus the Sounders and the Timbers in between.
STRONG AT THE BACK: The 'Caps have conceded only a goal each in their last three outings after averaging 2.31 goals allowed in their first 16 matches. The 'Caps defence will attempt to thwart the Quakes attack that has put through seven goals into the Vancouver net in their first two meetings this year, including two with the 'Caps down at least a man. Jake Nerwinski, Ranko Veselinovic, Erik Godoy, and Ali Adnan have started on the 'Caps backline in their last three matches, with Evan Bush in net.
AGELESS WONDERS: Both sides feature veteran MLS strikers who started the season providing an attacking punch off the bench before taking a regular spot on the XI for their respective clubs. Fredy Montero has three goals and five assists, all coming from the last nine matches, eight of which he has started. On the opposing side, Chris Wondolowski has started the last six for the Quakes, and has four goals and an assist on the season. The 'Caps and the Quakes will look to strike on Saturday after both sides were held scoreless last weekend.
