Henry scores early but 'Caps fall to the Quakes

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC fell 3-1 to the visiting San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday night at BC Place.

Doneil Henry opened the scoring in the seventh minute with his third goal of the season but the Quakes followed with two goals in the first half from Valeri Qazaishvili in the 16th minute and Chris Wondolowski in the 34th. Magnus Eriksson would get the third and final goal for the Quakes in the 79th minute to finish the evening 3-1.

Henry was back in the starting XI for his 100th MLS match and the defender made his presence known, scoring the opening goal of the game. Yordy Reyna lined up for a free kick and was able to find Henry in the box who took one touch on the ball before striking it along the ground into the bottom right corner of the net.

Maxime Crépeau stood solid in net once again for the ‘Caps, having five saves in the first half. But the Quakes would even up the score in the 16th minute from Qazaishvili off of a deflection from Crépeau’s initial save.

The Quakes would take the lead before halftime with an unfortunate play that had Qazaishvili’s strike deflect off the far post, hitting the back of a diving Crépeau who scrambled back up to scoop the ball off the line, but Wondolowski was on the spot to get his ninth of the season.

Henry was looking to double his goals in the 72nd minute when he connected with Yordy Reyna off another free kick, but just missed over the net. San Jose would score one more from Eriksson in the 79th minute to finish the match 3-1 for the Quakes.
