What a week it’s been for David Ousted.
With seven clean sheets and a string of superlative-laden performances already under his belt this season, the Danish shot-stopper has picked up right where he left off after an impressive 2014 campaign.
But even though ‘Caps fans have long appreciated the goalkeeper’s talents, the rest of the league, and indeed the footballing world, have started to sit up and take notice of Ousted after a great week for the Great Dane.
Two penalties, two saves
It all started last Saturday when Ousted put in a Budweiser Man of the Match performance against New York Red Bulls. Ousted saved two penalties on the night, twice denying the 2014 Golden Boot winner Bradley Wright-Phillips from the spot.
“He gave me a top-quality performance," Whitecaps FC coach Carl Robinson said of Ousted's display to New York's MSG Network after the game. "When you get two penalties given against you, you need your 'keeper to come up big and he didn't do it just once, he did it twice.”
Team of the week
Alongside his coach, his teammates and his ever-growing army of fans, Ousted also received recognition from the league after landing a spot in the MLS Team of the Week alongside teammate Kekuta Manneh.
FIFA 15
The accolades continued a day later after landing a spot in the EA Sports FIFA 15 Team of the Week. The award recognizes outstanding performances from players across the world and translates them into an all-star team in the best-selling game. With more than 15 million gamers across the globe, that’s a lot of people who’ll get to experience the keeper’s under-appreciated talents.
And to put the cherry on the top of what’s been an Oust-anding week for the man between the sticks, this morning MLS announced that the ‘Caps shot-stopper had been awarded their Save of the Week award for his first PK stop against the Red Bulls.
It all adds to up to a pretty impressive week for Ousted. That’s not the first time we’ve said that of course, and if his form to date has been anything to go by, it won’t be the last either.
