VANCOUVER, BC – Team Blue earned a 1-0 win over Team White in a Whitecaps FC intersquad match in front of several thousand fans at BC Place on Saturday.
The winning goal came early in the match when Érik Godoy headed in a corner kick from Cristián Gutiérrez in the sixth minute.
Jay Herdman nearly equalized for Team White in the 10th minute when he got in behind and hit a delicate chip off the crossbar.
Isaac Boehmer then came up with a huge diving save in the 20th minute, denying Godoy a second header goal.
In the 52nd minute, Boehmer came up big again to deny Ali Ahmed with a kick save from close range. Boehmer was called into action one more time in the 73rd minute stopping Déiber Caicedo on a partial breakaway.
Whitecaps FC now turn their attention to their MLS season opener next Saturday, February 26 at Columbus Crew. The 'Caps host their home opener on Saturday, March 5 versus New York City FC at BC Place. For tickets go to whitecapsfc.com/tickets.
