Get to know Vancouver Whitecaps FC rookie Ryan Raposo, who made his MLS debut and picked up an assist in Vancouver's 1-0 win over LA Galaxy last weekend.
What are you most proud of?
My heritage. Being half-Chinese and half-Portuguese.
What or who has had the biggest impact on you?
My mother. I see how hard work she works and it inspires me to do the same.
Who was your favourite soccer player growing up?
Cristiano Ronaldo.
If you weren’t a soccer player, what do you think you would be?
I’d work in the soccer business somehow, probably as a coach!
What’s the biggest challenge you’ve had to go through?
I would say living in Germany alone when I was 15 years old. I kind of just had to figure things out myself. Or when I broke my leg when I was 17.
What did you take away from those experiences?
The Germany experience definitely made me grow up as a person and as a soccer player, seeing how the real professional life is and how things work at the next level. Breaking my leg just made me appreciate my health and put things into perspective.
What’s your fondest memory?
I would say scoring for the national team when I was 15.
What’s your favourite TV show?
Friends.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
I have a sweet tooth.
What song would you sing at karaoke?
Anything from Drake!
